Anti-Semitism thrives. Indeed it does. Obama would like nothing more than to force Israel’s hand into complete self destruction. His actions tell the sorry story as do I. Israel no longer has an ally in America yet she acquiesces to Obama’s commands and horrifying intimidations by Kerry. At the same time, Iran is encouraged to go nuclear and will. Israel watches yet still engages another peace process whose only guarantee can be more dead Israelis with less land. Peace talks and Israeli deaths go hand-in-hand. Peace cannot and will not follow; it never does. Yet Israel continues to play ball. Is her co-dependence on her American enemy resolute and immovable? Isn’t it time to formulate new approaches?
American Jews, the other half of the Jewish equation, voted by 70% for Obama, a pro-Muslim leader… in both elections. Jews were told by their disturbingly mostly misguided Jewish leaders, even AIPAC, Obama supports Israel for real; didn’t he say, “I have her back.” He lies. Nonetheless, they mostly bought it. It was an easy get especially when ideological deception is involved. Just speak liberal, Jews will flock. Speaking of that, Alan Dershowitz, our self appointed legal genius bought it too, though now he retrenches. It seems even he can’t escape the ugly facts such as they are. His flawed liberalism failed as did his critical reasoning which he never possessed in spades. Obama is after all a Democrat which means Jews like Alan, with few exceptions, presume the best even when the facts clearly don’t support such a conclusion.
Least we forget and should remind ourselves, without affluent Jewish support, as in Penny Pritzker, and political guidance as in Rahm Emanuel & David Axelrod, there would be no Obama presidency. Under such circumstances, haven’t we a right to demand that Obama stand up for Israel and us, despite his anti-Semitic views. We could say, “you got the presidency… and we got what exactly in return?” Some do, but not enough to make a difference. Our reluctance is palpable and sad. We bring it on ourselves. My gentile friends don’t understand. It’s illogical.
Perhaps Jewish scholars could seriously explore this problem, but with an intent to propose practical hands-on approaches to altering endemic Jewish reticence which leads to self destructive outcomes. But we’re in deep….
Despite all this, let’s sit back and continue raising money for organizations that purport to fight anti-semitism but really don’t. Many are flush. Jews unknowingly and habitually give to those who keep them in the blind. We should logically expect those organizations to effectively point out the ugly facts and stridently oppose them. That takes courage and conviction. I happily support the organizations that do. Meanwhile, the stakes against Jews grow larger as that bold road less traveled gets traveled even less.
It’s the New Year! Tis the Season. Fundraising prevails. It’s also a time to formulate viable goals that must have impact. That takes chutzpah and courage to assess what you’re putting out and your chances to make a difference. Time feels short.
I’m watching and observing and don’t like what I see. Jewish people are getting squeezed mostly by their own stupidity. Mostly they don’t know it. Who’s telling them different? Their rabbis? Jewish leaders? Some of you are. Many of you are not.
I wish you a Happy New Year 2014, and hope fervently for a better year.
