Obama’s final weeks as president reveal a lack of dignity and what appears to be marked desperation in the face of abject rejection by the American electorate. His parting actions coincide fittingly with the behavior he’s demonstrated over eight years that have cumulatively met with disfavor. But for Obama, public dissatisfaction is long ignored replaced by his smug belief that he knows what’s best. So rather than fold his tent appropriately as a duly departing president should do, he’s chosen instead to clandestinely denigrate Trump by refusing to accept his presidency despite his vow to treat the transition respectfully and with an even more rancorous parting shot, he rejects Israeli settlement activity in the West Bank, with his final refusal to veto the UN Security Council’s rogue resolution, a spiteful display of detestation for Israel and the Jewish people, a sentiment not shared by the majority of American people.
Watching Obama’s behavior now in his final gasping weeks of power is an embarrassment to those of us who cannot fathom a departing president acting in such a brattish and unlawful manner. The attempted delegitimization of both Israel and Trump is both brazen and shocking. Trump, who is reviled daily before even stepping into the Oval Office, is the only leader with the courage to spell out the facts. He tells the people what he’s thinking credibly, with a tough real-deal authenticity that is truly novel. Polished Obama does the opposite. He exudes charm while insidiously executing dangerous policies but always with that cool smile on his face that masks his real intentions.
Trump’s punished for a gruff veneer connoting honesty while Obama’s applauded for his cunning charm that deceives. Upon analysis, any one of us would pick the former over the latter.
A concerted attempt to delegitimize Trump’s election has emerged in despicable ways that bear repeating: first there was the unproven Russian interference in Trump’s election followed by a more damning fake news assault by CNN who brought it to our attention, culminating with left wing BuzzFeed who published unsubstantiated stories to defame Trump’s character with claims that Russian intelligence and Trump campaign officials were working together, a story cooked up by political opponents. An unabashed attempt to malign a good man and a case of media-hate subsuming truth; Buzzfeed knew the news was concocted and false.
Indeed, BuzzFeed’s editor-in-chief, Ben Smith made this shameful declaration after his decision to publish the secret dossier that contained explosive allegations about Donald Trump and Russia. In it he makes this claim: as we noted in our story, there is serious reason to doubt the allegations. We have been chasing specific claims in this document for weeks, and will continue to.
So why publish unsubstantiated information and continue to chase a bogus story? It’s unrestrained hatred toward Trump promoted within a culture of malevolence germinated by Obamaism.
Still, and to their credit, many media outlets who had this information wisely chose to avoid it.
If we dig deeper we come up with more disturbing facts: the Obama Justice Department has been promoting this Trump investigation despite no findings of criminality against Donald Trump. National Review’s Andrew C. McCarthy tells us the FBI could not have sought FISA warrants against Trump without Obama DOJ approval and assistance. Lest we forget, Obama refused to allow the DOJ to help the FBI obtain surveillance warrants in their criminal investigation against Hillary Clinton. The hampered FBI had no power to produce evidence against the Clinton’s yet Obama currently uses the DOJ against Trump.
McCarthy tell us ……..if the Justice Department decides a case against Republicans is worth pursuing aggressively, even the absence of evidence of a crime is no obstacle — they just go to the FISA court, and they keep going until they get the answer they like.
Obama’s compliance has enabled this story to escalate despite its specious rumor mill squalor. That is, without Obama-sanctioned DOJ approval this story would have likely been squashed months ago.
This witch hunt spread to intelligence agencies, senior members of congress and government officials who were appraised of these groundless developments. It was drama crafted to demean Trump’s credibility – a priggish juvenile refusal to accept the election outcome with Obama covertly leading the charge.
Trump’s January 11th press conference was unprecedented in many ways. In it, Trump declared war on the press. Trump knows he has to watch his back. The national press corp would like nothing better than to bring him down. No Republican president has confronted the news media by condemning their tactics. Information that was false and fake got released to the public. Some of you in this news room, I have more respect for, Trump stated. He refused to take a question from persistent CNN reporter, Jim Acosta, telling him, don’t be rude. No, I’m not going to give you a question……..You are fake news. Trump’s anger was directed mostly at CNN and BuzzFeed.
Going forward, press conferences will entail a different style of comportment and media-lies not tolerated which could produce a more responsible press. If played right, Trump has the upper hand in that media credibility is at an all time low.
The takeaway: there’s a new sheriff in town. Trump’s press conference was question-intensive. He took 17 questions using his direct style to cover many topics.
Trump discussed the possibility that Putin did hack the DNC, but he noted that the DNC had no discernible cyber security to protect them from cyberthreats. The DNC was totally open to being hacked.
Trump also said, we’re hacked by everybody. We need strong hacking defense which the Democratic party did not do……..22,000,000 companies were hacked in the U.S. He will address the issue of protecting America from cyberthreats by cleaning up our cyber security infrastructure to secure our government, military, national security, banking and corporate America.
Trump also made clear Obamacare will be repealed and replaced all at once. He expects to appoint a Supreme Court nominee within two weeks of his presidency. He will build a wall and stressed Mexico one way or another will pay for it. He will impose a border tax to punish U.S. companies who choose to leave America, the focus on increasing jobs within our country. His two sons will be running the Trump businesses and his previous business affairs put in trusts to avoid conflicts of interest.
The politicized delegitimization of Trump coupled with a hostile polarization within America has resulted in a political culture that separates rather than brings us together. Our two political parties are so alienated that we now hear as many as 64 House Democrats will not attend Trump’s inauguration. It’s a sophomoric boycott attempt to disavow a legitimate president that widens the political gap mostly because the Democratic party refuses to acknowledge they lost this election due to out-of-touch unpopular political views. Easier to blame others than face reality as it is.
It dismisses decency and respectability, time honored virtues that have been pushed aside. Politics degraded even further than we thought possible. Obama will attend the inauguration but he made certain to avoid addressing his party’s inauguration boycott – a purposeful omission which can only be interpreted as an affirmation of their behavior.
Despite their bitterness, there is excitement and anticipation that goes with this new leader.
Obama’s behavior within days of Trump’s inauguration reflects bitter rancor and disregard for the dignity of the presidency. It seals the character of a president who failed to leave any significant legacy other than that of spitefulness and animosity. His heart reflects despicable resolve lurking beneath a contrived illusion that strives for likability. His facade exposed. Americans no longer fooled by this depleted and departing empty suit.
